He was "the king" in the times of the apostles. It is not specified in the Bible whether he was the same or different Herod than the one mentioned in Mat 14:1, and who beheaded John the baptist. Secular history tells that in fact this Herod is a different one. "And he killed James the brother of John with the sword." And he put Peter in prison. Acts 12:23 "the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory". Secular history also tells that he was the son of Herod (Mat 14:1) and he was the father of Agrippa (Acts 25:13) and Bernice (Acts 25:13) and Drusilla (Acts 24:24). |
